Women who are having Fertility Treatment abroad want the ability to access an ultrasound scan on a particular day of the menstrual cycle at a convenient location and at a time that suits them. OvaScan | Fertility Ultrasound recognises the level of support needed locally and specializes in delivering our services when you need them most.
We provide local support and back up facilities for those undergoing fertility treatments abroad. Our sonographers are fully qualified and trained in performing basic and advanced transvaginal ultrasounds. We fully understand that timing is often of the essence and we will provide scans seven days a week if needed.
Our state-of-the-art scanning equipment provides the latest in ultrasound technology. You may attend a gynaecology ultrasound or book a series of scans as per your personal plan developed by your chosen fertility clinic.
All scans are performed using a vaginal probe (a small device inserted gently into the vagina) to obtain the clearest view of the pelvis, the lining of the uterus referred to as ‘endometrial thickness', ovaries and the number and size of the egg producing follicles. Services provided by OvaScan | Fertility Ultrasound:
Transvaginal Scans
Timing according to fertility cycles
Endometrial thickness scans
Follicle tracking scans
Antral follicle scans
Ovarian Reserve Scans

One possible reason why we may be unable to see a healthy pregnancy in the womb at the early pregnancy scan stage is because you may be earlier than you think, and so we may advise a repeat scan after another week or two. Sometimes, however, it may be a sign of an early miscarriage. Under these circumstances we recommend a further ultrasound scan in 7-10 days with the HSE to check the viability of the pregnancy again. However, the scan may show that there has clearly been a miscarriage or that there are signs suggestive of an ectopic pregnancy - a pregnancy outside of the womb. In these instances we will refer you for further care to the Early Pregnancy Unit at your local Hospital for further follow up.
During the ultrasound scan we assess the position and shape of the gestational sac. It is important to see the sac within the uterus as this excludes an ectopic pregnancy. We then look for the presence of the embryo or possibly multiple embryos. The heart rate is measured to determine viability. A measurement is then taken from the tip of the head to the little bottom, called the crown rump length (CRL). When performed correctly, this measurement is the most accurate way of dating a pregnancy. Many studies show that this form of dating is more accurate than the first day of the last period or measurements taken at a detailed anomaly scan which is carried out at around 20 weeks. We also examine the uterus and ovaries for any pathology such as ovarian cysts or fibroids. Can I bring my partner?
